2xu compression run

nicoll highway was dotted with little black army ants, when viewed from the overhead crossing bridge. the first wave started out late, at 7.15 pm, and by the time we arrived at the start pent, we were in for the second wave.

the weather’s super hot, but were glad that the pocari sweat drinks had been served cold. with the huge turnout of runners, it was inevitable in the delay at the hydration stations where volunteers frantically pour the drinks in the cups and, sometimes, on hands of the runners. the route was easy, a good opportunity to attain a PB. some parts of the route were narrow though, especially along stadium boulevard and return route back to nicoll highway.

the wet and cold towel issued at the finishing point, was a relief to the burning skin. cold pocari sweat drinks was still being served at the finishers’ tent.

i completed the race, with a result far away from my PB 🙁

nevertheless, it was still an improvement over the nike kl city run from last november.

the 1st 4km was alright, till i started to feel the pain on my fore foot half-way through to the 5km mark. surprisingly, my calves and thighs did not ache as much as i’d felt during my short training runs. i wasn’t hydrated well, and towards the last 4km, i was trying to catch my breathe, more than concentrating on finishing the race.

running with an additional 5kg load definitely saps away a lot of my effort and energy to lift my feet off the ground. i am hoping to shed another 2-3kg before the shape run in july.

that pretty much concludes the first run of the year in singapore. the next run would be the all women’s nike 5k goddess run!
