nike goddess run 2012
the heavy downpour did not deterred the nike goddesses from turning up in sentosa. by the time the goddesses were in the start pent, preparing for the flag off, the skies had cleared, a nice weather to jog, unlike the hot weather from the event last year. the flag off was 8 minutes off, and by then, the skies looked as though it was going to unleash another round of terror.
probably the cloud with the lightning cloud, as one of the runner put it, is a bad karma. despite the short 5km route, there were 2 hydration stations that served both isotonic drinks and plain water.
the path was narrow, especially along the footpath from palawan beach to tanjong beach. it was almost impossible to run or overtake, without bumping into the fellow runners. one also have to avoid the slippery metal “longkang” grilles along the footpath. the running path was wider after the u-turn point, back to the finish line.
my average for 5km, has always been in the sub-30 minute range, and my PB is at 35 minutes.
judging from the average pace per km, it will take a while more, to ensure it is between 5 to 6 minutes per km, in order to hit below 30. 🙁
i prefer the event from last year, where the runners were treated to soy ice-cream, a buffet of light finger food, and of course, the finisher gift. the nike sponsored runs i’d attended, do not issue finisher medal, which is fine with me, since i’m running out of space on my medal’s wardrobe.
it started to rain heavily, towards my run back to the finishing point. the start/finish gantry was in the reversed direction, and i just relied on the time on my runkeeper, without turning my back to see the finished gun time. in fact, i was a tad disappointed no towels were issued at the finishing line. it just strike me that no towels will be issued anyway, even if the weather’s hot and sunny. most of us were drenched in the rain from the walk back to the carnival area, and a dry towel would have been welcoming.
i hope nike will take in the negative feedback from some of the runners, and next year’s nike goddess run shall be better.
