tampines north east run

i have to spilt the run into 2 sections, due to the search of toilet (again!!), during the race. a total of 8 minutes were spent as the result for arriving, just in time for the flag off. the first 100 meters was a squeeze, and all hell broke loose once the runners approached the streets. traffic marshalls shouted frantically to stop the majority of the runners from dashing across the middle of the street.

it’s not worth to sacrifice my life for an urgent call, and obediently made my crossing at the traffic junction. dashed to my call for nature at the central community centre, only to discover the toilets will be opened at 7.30 am. if it wasn’t due to some construction works in temasek polytechnic, i would have to endure it till the rest station in bedok reservoir, which is about 3 km away from temasek.

the weather was very forgiving, and i could feel light breeze while running around the reservoir. the sun was behind our backs, on our return trip, and we were in the shade most of the time, unintentionally.

when i saw the potential winners racing up towards the entrance where we made our turn into the reservoir, i knew they were on the wrong track. the race covered only half of the reservoir. the 3km signboard, was the last distance marker spotted in the reservoir park, before i spotted the 8 km mark after the overhead bridge.

2 hydration stations, 1 between the 1 km to 2 km or 8 km to 9 km mark, and 1 between the 3 km to 4 km mark, which a lot of runners had missed. the volunteers in the 2nd hydration station could have spotted the runners, and one of them brought a tray of isotonic drinks down to the gravel path. i was one of the slow but lucky runners to savour the cool drink.

it was an enjoyable run, and so far, the cheapest 10 km run, with a generous goodie bag, finisher medal and free flow of 100plus and bananas.

if it wasn’t for the mixed up on the race route, i wouldn’t have completed my first jog around the bedok reservoir. 🙂
