the home alone weekend, preview and fireworks

i have the whole house to myself this weekend, as the hubby and gang went up north for the final leg of a running relay. the night photography session was ruined by the rain on friday evening, and settled for a sumptuous dinner, only to be awaken by a rumbling stomach in the middle of the night.

the schedule on saturday was initially packed to the brim, with an early morning brisk walk, followed by bunny run, and the NDP preview. the NDP preview was an impromptu invitation from bff who managed to obtain the tickets the day before. we were seated in the green zone by 6 pm, therefore, had to forgo the bunny event, even though i was at the barrage before 4 pm.

i would have been able to capture the armoured vehicles and closed ups of red lions with my 70-200.

National Day Parade Preview 2013

the tradition of the flag passing across the parade grounds every year during the singing of our national anthem.

i was well equipped with my tripod and remote shutter, and had them setup soon after the marching out parade ended. we were still at the bane of the wind, and we were seated in an unfavourable direction, as the smoke from the fireworks drifted towards us. the smaller fireworks worked well, but not the burst of the pyrotechnics display towards the end of the parade.

this was my first NDP preview at the floating platform, and i actually missed watching the parade last year. the first item was interesting, and brought a little insight to how singapore got its name, through human placards. the other item that caught my attention was the talking merlion.

lugging around a camera bag, tripod and the ndp goodie bag wasn’t convenient in packed trains. i made the right decision to travel light without the 70-200. one more day to rest, and nurse my sore throat and flu before the start of a new week. finally, no more insomnia tonight.
