singa the lion

this orange lion, singa the courtesy lion, is the mascot for the singapore kindness movement. back in 1979, the national courtesy campaign was launched as a means to encourage kindness and consideration to each other, so as to create a pleasant social environment.

in 1982, the national courtesy campaign was the first campaign in singapore to adopt a mascot as the campaigns back then were largely slogan driven. different slogans were used throughout the years but i can only fondly recall “courtesy begins with me” during my teenage years.

the national courtesy campaign was incorporated into the singapore kindness movment in march 2001. a new logo was introduced and our familiar courtesy mascot is placed together with the new designs – 2 strokes and ovals, one who does an act of kindness and the other who receives it. the red symbolises love for your fellow man and green represents caring for the environment, tolerance, creativity and consideration.
