the flight and the flightless

back then in my school days, school excursions would end up in the zoo, the botanical gardens or the science center. since young, i’d read about the world’s highest man-made waterfall in the bird park and had hoped to visit it. my parents are not fond of flora and fauna, and family trips were made mostly to the haw paw villa, east coast beach or sentosa (yes – our family and extended family will bring portal bbq pits, skewers, food for the bbq in sentosa!).

some were shocked when i told them i’d never been to the bird park, since it was thought to be another popular school excursion venue.

armed with my second set of hollywood dino tickets, we bought our my first admission ticket into the park.

one of my better exposure – i do not have the habit of jotting down the names of objects. the most prominent feature of this parrot is the orange spot on each side of the cheek.

one of my favourite shot – this ostrich walked towards us and posed for a picture. ostrich and emu are almost similar but with differences, and one of the easiest method to differentiate (imo), is the number of toes on the flightless bird. an ostrich has 2 toes while the emu has 3.

the highlight of the visit – a good opportunity to put my new ND4 filter into good use. the picture taken does not give credit to the acclaimed world’s highest man-made waterfall. for some strange reasons, we always manage to attract a crowd where ever we go. by the time the tripod was setup, there were too many human obstacles for a perfect shot.

it was a well-spent visit and we were in the park for 5 hours, without lunch. i’d seen and captured what i wanted, and it will a long time before i visit the park again.
