wordpress upgrade

i wonder seriously how often do people upgrade their wordpress version. as soon as the new upgrade is available? or wait for others to upgrade and report on issues before upgrading?

close to half an hour was spent upgrading from the previous 2.8.4 to 2.9.2 – about 7 versions behind the latest version. the upgraded portal’s working well so far and nothing’s been broken. and i’d finally made my first backup on the entire site, including the database. it gave me a better sense of assurance, should the upgrade failed and i could easily perform a restoration.
