a day in east coast with the best friend
we woke up with bleary eyes, and evidence of the late night to watch the official GE results, which was finally released till 3 am in the morning. washed up, packed my gear and we were ready to set off to east coast for the bestfriend run event. the bestfriend run is a running event opened to all run enthusiasts, families and their dogs. dog owners have the option to sign up for their dogs and take part in either the 2km fun walk/run and the 5km run.
thankfully the race did not garnered much attention and finding a carpark close to the event was a breeze. by the time we arrived, the 15km and 10km participants had already been flagged off. we witnessed the flag off for the other events, and had the opportunity to mingle with the owners and their dogs, before their races.
some of the dog owners were dragged by their enthusiastic dogs right after flag off.
that was only the beginning…towards the end of the race, most of the smaller dogs were being dragged by their human counterparts to the finishing line. i couldn’t help but pity them, most of them, in their thick coat of fur under the hot sun.
the star of the day goes to pipi, whom i have heard a lot of, seen him on photos and finally get to see him. pipi is the only dog i know, who shies away from his doggy friends, and all other four-legged animals.
i do have a soft spot for dogs with brown and white coat of fur, and my personal favourite is a beagle. the amount of time spent with them is rewarding, but the thought of grooming, toilet training and cleaning up the mess is discouraging.
for now, i am contented with a visit to my close friend’s place, where she kept a shetland sheepdog, teddy.
Bib487 was another barefoot runner I knew in the east side. He finished his first barefoot marathon this May in Sundown Marathon.
I recognized him from his huaraches and his buddy Robin.
