the uneventful run

the 1st km started well, with some zigzagging around the other runners, and a constant desired pace. the first sign of pain came less than a few meters after hitting the 1 km mark, and nauseousness kicked in. a cough didn’t carry the sensation away, and with the advice from the emcee, “listen to your body”, ringing in my head, i slowed to a walk. disappointment willed me to turn back, and an attempt to move to the sidewalk was diminished when i was forced to switch back to the runners lane to make way for the first runner towards the finishing point (that was only my 2nd km!!).

i spent close to 22 mins, just on the bridge leading from the exhibition center to the main road. 22 mins would have translated to 3 km on my normal running speed. it was a disastrous run for me, with the constant abdominal pain, i restricted myself to 2 hydration stations.

i completed the 10k sundown in approximately 1 hr 31 mins (gun time), after the 12 km passion run last weekend and a 4.60 km training run. despite the bloated abdominal, with puking symptoms, i managed to endure through the last 7 km. more trainings and workouts, that’s what needed to keep myself in tip top condition for my next runs.

*** update ***

the results for the 10k released only a day after the race. kudos to the organizers!

ranked 1886 with a chip time of 01:29:34 at the 10k mark, and 00:44:36 at the 5k mark. not too bad, considering the long walk in the first few kms.
