tea-timed at flor pâtisserie

flor pâtisserie, located along one of the shophouses in duxton hill, is a little shop that offers a delectable range of japanese inspired french pastries. chef yamashita, the owner of flor, with 20 years of japanese baking techniques, first came here to help the relatives’ pâtisserie glacé shop at icon village. after a year and a half of taking charge in the kitchen at pâtisserie glacé, chef yamashita revived his pâtisserie from japan, and re-established flor.

the hubby was convinced to bring me there, after giving a positive feedback on the green tea chiffon tofu cake.

flor offers a tea time set that consists of a drink and a pastry for only $9.50. clueless on what to order, i looked around the tables of the other customers first, before deciding on the napolean. the hubby had the waguri millefeuille, both paired with earl grey tea.

i was glad i made the right choice with the napolean. sandwiched between 2 layers of pastry puff are layers of fresh strawberries in chantilly cream, soft sponge cake and custard cream. i like the sweet, sourish taste from the fresh strawberries, and the strawberry jam on the top layer of the puff pastry. the best way to indulge in this goodness of layered pastry, would have been to let it fall to its side and scoop it up with a spoon. i tried to poke it through the top of the pastry with a fork, and ended up in a mess.

FLOR Pâtisserie - Napolean

if you are a fan of chestnuts, you would love this concoction of delicate strands of french chestnut cream piped over a sandwich of puff pastry with custard cream and soft sponge cake, topped with sweetened bits of japanese chestnuts.

i read on the reviews for the cheese tart after the visit, and would be glad to return for another visit for those.

even though not a huge fan of cakes, flor is definitely a cosy and quiet place to spend your lazy afternoons.
