posb run for kids 2011
2 runs were held on the same day, the yellow ribbon prison run and the posb run for kids. the posb run for kids was rescheduled due to a conflict in the half army marathon. as a result, the hubby opted for the posb over the yellow ribbon prison run, purely for the finisher medal (competitors were issued with finisher medal in this year’s yellow ribbon prison run instead).
the race was held in east coast park this year. the 10km competitive flagged off at 7 am, and half an hour before the flag off, there was already a beeline of parents with their kids in the starting pen. as the runners lined up behind the starting line, the spectators already stationed themselves behind the barricades. i managed to capture a few decent shots from the limitation of the zoom capabilities on my 28-75mm lens.
i skipped the flag off for the kids, knowing well that the parents would be eagerly waiting for their kids along the barricades. coupled with the billboards attached to the barricades, it would be difficult for me to tiptoe or even bend down to capture the kids. the organizers sealed up part of the route before the start and finish points, and despite that, i missed the running shot of the first few runners in the competitor run. nevertheless, i finally caught up with the guy who ran barefoot. there were some who wore the vibram five fingers, but none came close to a real run without any shoes. i came across a guy, clan in stanchart running tee, who ran barefoot in the run 360 and the mount faber run, and i do hope he’s the same guy.
the hubby, chided by my remarks on his finishing time, was convinced to finish the race in less than an hour. it was a great effort put up by him, where he improved by 20 minutes, even though he didn’t managed to make it below 1 hour.
at the end of the day, everybody is a winner, so long as you complete the race. nothing beats having a good cup of cold and refreshing milo under the the hot sun.

Thank you for the kind compliments. 🙂 I supposed you were the only guy who ran barefoot in the posb kids run? It wouldn’t have been an easy feat to run barefoot, especially after the heavy rain the day before, with lots of branches and leaves scattered on the running path.
Hi, this is best running photo I’v ever been shot. Thanks!
But I’m not the guy you met in the previous run. I knew quite a few barefoot runners here in S’pore, especially in east side. And I also recognize one in your best friend run post, he was in huaraches then.
My 3yrs old girl was quite exited when she saw this photo. She said” Daddy you are running, but remember to wear shoes next time!”. It was really funny!
