:( BSoD
the dreaded blue screen of death (BSoD) has been included in all versions of windows that i’d ever used, except, on the windows 7 which i’ve been using no my office machine for the past 2 years. the screen is blue and filled with lines of uninformative text – a nightmare to a non-IT savvy user.
the BSoD gets a major revamp on windows 8. microsoft empathizes with you and you get a sad face, followed by a message telling you your pc ran into a problem that it couldn’t handle, and a reboot will take place.
the error might be too generic to nail down to the root cause, but alas, users will be spared with the indecipherable messages from the previous versions.
lifehacker runs a few useful articles on windows 8, which is worth going through.
a pre-beta version of windows 8 for developers, the windows developer preview, is available for download now. if you would like to have a feel on how windows 8 and do not want to run into the risk of reformatting your current system, you can either dual boot the OS or install in a virtual environment. after all, you have been warned in the download site that the may not be stable and should not be used in a production environment.
