the dreaded runner injury – PF

i can’t be sure if it’s achilles heel, till the following symptoms of pain on my right foot started to intensify:

  • my first steps out of bed every morning
  • after sitting for a while
  • after intense activity – which was the recent run in macritchie on uneven surfaces, and on times when i ran after a hiatus of more than a week.
  • unable to bend my foot fully, without feeling the tightness on my foot around the plantar fascia area

it could be plantar fasciitis.

i have yet to seek medical attention and if the pain does not go away next week… 🙁

  1. Thanks for the advice 🙂 the PF symptoms going away..but replaced with pain on the soleus, on the same side of my leg. Have been resting for the past week and only started an easy paced run this week. Trying to take it slow and easy with stretching before and after. Hope the pain will be reduced.

  2. It’s plantar fasciitis according to your symptons. It is mostly caused by insuffcient warm up. So the only way to cure it without stopping running is to perform at least 15min (better 20min) piror to every run. The correct warm up is to slowly increasing pace (better by HR) from walking state to the target zone, e.g. if you are going to run 6:00/km, you need to start with 10:00/km (walking), and slowly increasing to 6:00/km in at least 15min. Without proper warm up, you muscle and tendon was working at a low blood fuel state for certain time and easy be tear and wore out.
